Total War Warhammer How To Play Chaos
Apr 29, 2016 - Total War: Warhammer - the Chaos Warriors are not good guys. Although Chaos Warriors are in the game as enemies you only get to play as.
Welcome to!A subreddit for all of those who love the Total War series. Don't break down the Marauder building, unless you plan to do a lot of auto-resolving. I think it's a mistake that was popularized by one of the earliest Warhammer 1 streams that makes the start of the campaign really frustrating. Reason being that Norsca will come at you with a lot of mobile, high-damage units. Chaos Warriors are either overkill (Marauders), will take more damage than they need (Greatweapon Marauders), or will get kited and take a full unit's worth of ammo (Marauder Horsemen). And at the same time your army will either be small or have you in negative upkeep, which creates a clock that dictates how you maneuever the early gameHaving Hounds and your own Marauder Horsemen helps you keep costs down and gives you some nice cheap flankers.
Marauders are stupid cheap to replace and maintain, and can soak up a ton of damage early on. Marauder Horsemen are also your cheapest, best bet against Mammoths/Frost Wyrms/Trolls because they can focus down big targets that will otherwise boss around your infantry. Against Empire, Hounds are super useful for shutting down artillery and CrossbowmenThe real trick to early horde gameplay (both Chaos and Beastmen), I think, is to play your strategic game really hard. You have to do a lot of moving and backtracking to keep from getting surrounded by all of your enemies. You have to Awaken tribes to use their territory for replenishment. You have to scout a bit to make sure you aren't running into four stacks of enemies.
Take targets of opportunity, burn them down, then go hunt for another weak targetYour lords are crazy powerful, so they and your starting units will do the most work while you throw chaff to distract everyone. If you can get a caster early (for Kholek) or start with Archaon then having spells like Burning Skull can be super useful for fighting off piles of low-armor chaff. If you diassemble (or whatever it's called ingame) your marauder requitment building, you can start recruiting chaos warrios from turn 3.Turn 1:Move 75%, encamp, build tier 2 camp, disband your marauder recruitment building.Turn 2.Raze the norscan camp. Encamp and build a Chaos Warrior requitment building.Turn 3.
Recruit chaos warriors en masse, and use them against the empire or norsca that both have little to no early game armor piercing damage. Also, you should only loot settlements if you are really low on favour, the extra population growth from razing is usually better. Don't waste time trying to lay siege to region capitals, raze the smaller tows and move on.This strategy works for both kholek and archaon, and actually works even better for Sigvald because of his hellcannon. My brother I got you:Play Kholek (of course), he can tank tons of damage, solo any enemy lord, and is very mobile.Stick to one army only at first. Keep the marauder building and train up a full 20 stack while moving the maximum distance so that you can still go into encamp stance.
You should be able to easily subjugate the first norscan tribe within 2 turns and then build up quickly after. The key to the early game is to go into Kholek's redline skills which allow you to beef up the marauders like no one's business. You can defeat enemy marauders even with legendary difficulty stat buffs once you get three points into marauder specific one that gives +melee attack and melee defence. After kholek's redline buffs to marauders, go into blue line and get +growth. Also upgrade your main horde building for additional growth. Once this is done you will surpluses much quicker.Focus on upgrading your unit replenishment (research, ancillaries, blue line skills?). Even if you take heavy losses, being able to get into fighting shape again quickly is key when your single army is your lifeline.Screw chaos warriors at the start, your focus instead should be marauder horsemasters.
I swear they crush everything in the north with their versatility. They can skirmish down monsters, charge low army infantry, ride down enemy skirmishers.Sack norscan or kislevian cities for sweet cash, get research that adds to this. Use this money to upgrade your buildings.Fight as many battles as you can. If you can upgrade kholek enough, then the campaign gets so much better. He has incredible special yellow line buffs in addition to being an absurd duelist.
Total War Warhammer Chaos Gods
Leveling him up also unlocks powerful regiments of renown.Once rich enough, you can then transition into chaos warriors. I would first build a shaman building and grab a fire wizard. Holy shit are they powerful. Burning head goes in a straight line where you aim it, devastates low armour enemies, and causes a huge morale debuff. If kholek is near, his fear and terror will cause a mass route. The fire bombardment is armour peircing and completely destroys whatever infantry it hits including high armour.Pro Tip: you can use burning head in siege battles and it will ricochet off the building and burn all the infantry the AI keeps in reserve behind their walls.
So, I've played about 80 turns in a chaos campaign and for the first 40 or so turns I thought I was doing pretty well. I thought I would start out by awakining the northern tripes, but that turned out to be a waste of time and resources. As I went up against Skaeling (the biggest of those northern. Been getting my ass handed to me playing as Chaos and I don't. Was popularized by one of the earliest Warhammer 1 streams that makes the.
The bombardment will kill any unit it targets on the walls.Anyway, if you upgrade your main settlement building and also up to chosen building, the upkeep will be next to nothing for a host of chosen. Now the game begins.Next Pro Tip: go for the sword of Khaine. With an army of chosen at your back, no one can resist you. The sword starts in Ulthaun. Burn your way across kislev, the empire, and brettonia to get there.
Don't get too distracted though.I have found that if you get across to ulthaun within 50 turns the sword will still be hanging around there by one of the high elf factions. Imagine their fear when the chosen and the mountain god unleash upon them. Take the sword. Now once kholek has the sword of khaine, you are truly unstoppable.
If you are smart and get equipment that raises 'ward save' he will take essentially no damage from anything. The sword gives +25 to 35 melee attack and like +500 weapon damage so he hits for over 1k, some can get him to hit for 1.7k with abilities. The sword also gives ward save on its own. The sword also gives the most devastating vortex ability you will ever see. That is my advice, good luck.
